Vacation destinations are often plagued by
common everyday illnesses that travelers are exposed to on
airplanes. Whether it is flu, bronchitis, upper respiratory

Herpes Zoster
Also known as Shingles, herpes zoster is a
viral infection. Typically, a painful blistered rash
develops along what is referred to as a nerve dermatome. This
dermatome is the area which the nerve supplies. Usually a

Walk in Clinic. Special care and follow up is recommended
for herpes zoster infections that occur in the nerve
distribution to the eye. First time infections last 7-14
days and require treatment with an antiviral medication.
Once you have Shingles, you always have the virus in the same
nerve, and can have recurring outbreaks. Illness, stress,
and sunburn tend to lead to herpes outbreaks. If you are
vacationing in a sunny destination, then sometimes taking
prophylactic doses of anti-viral medication may help decrease
the chance of outbreak. Urgent care walk in clinics can help
with this.
